SHOCK PLAN Ukrainian refugee & Diaspora (2022)

The purpose of this program is to give specific support in the field of entrepreneurship to 50 Ukrainians who are going to host the Community of Madrid. The fundamentals of the program are based on the internationally recognized key principles in:

  • Employability is crucial. On arrival in Spain–or even beforehand– Ukrainian refugees’ education level and skills should be assessed to identify and provide for their training needs and better match them to employment opportunities. In collaboration with language institutions or professional, priority is to provide literacy training to those that need it. Language training should be tailored to Ukrainian refugees’ workplace needs. Job training and skills development will be done by BPW Madrid in order to enable Ukrainian refugees to find higher-skilled and better-paid work longer term. The recognition and conversion of foreign qualifications is to be under consideration to be streamlined.
  • Skills aren’t much use without job opportunities. Ukrainian refugees should be resettled in areas where there are jobs, not in areas where cheap housing is available (and jobs aren’t). Enabling Ukrainian refugees to start businesses is a further reason why BPW Madrid is to cut through red tape that stifles enterprise.
